Things from the past, new & old!
A simply lovely fresh idea that has popped on the fashion scene recently is the reappearance of the dress. From mini’s to maxi’s, the dress has seen it’s popularity revived. After decades of floor-dragging jeans, skinny jeans, sprayed-on pants, shorts, and the like, this is a welcome breath of fresh air.
The dress, which can be deemed flattering and feminine, or pleasing and powerful, has many facets. Seen at a family picnic, a short, sheath dress of simple cotton can be very cool and comfortable. At a business meeting, a conservative A-line dress, with short sleeves, long, or in between can present a very professional personality. For fun and comfort, another dress has made its way back to the fashion scene. The maxi, whether in a skirt or dress, brings back memories of past decades when times were care-free for those over 50. The maxi, flowing, free, and famous!
This return to the dress has brought about another resurgence, that of sewing! Many seamstresses are finding pleasure in collecting and creating with vintage sewing patterns. With one sewing pattern, you can create many new outfits for your wardrobe closet. After you have mastered the sewing pattern, you can then create another different dress with just a switch of fabric and trim. You can create your favorite style from old movies and dress like those film stars of 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, & 1970s.
